Ms. Cindy Banes-Burkholder is trained as a Legal Nurse Consultant and Certified Legal Nurse consultant; Owner/ Principal of Ask-A-Legal-Nurse, a private practice consulting firm since 1991. Consulting over 30 yrs for trial attorneys, risk mgrs, & insurance cos; Has held in-house positions w/ both plaintiff & insurance defense firms inside of 3 plaintiff + 1 defense firm during this time.
Experience as an Ambulatory Utilization Review nurse for Metropolitan Life Ins Co., for both traditional indemnity and managed care markets, possessing keen insight into the liability culture.
Publications include: Med-Law Desk Reference:Your Guide to Standards of Care, 2 chapters in Nursing Malpractice-2nd ed textbook – Working with Expert witnesses& Jury Trial focus groups; as well as many additional editorials.
Editor of Core Curriculum for the Medical-Legal Consulting Institute, Inc., presented on Critical Pathways, Telephone Triage & Jury Trial Focus Groups for Vickie Milazzo’s annual NACLNC conferences.
She is the charter and founding President of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants – St. Louis Chapter in 1992, and recently held a National board position as Director at Large with AALNC from 1997 to 2000. She has developed “Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy: A Case Study and the Independent LNC’s Role” for the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants, released 2002.
Clinical practice areas include Emergency Room, trauma, cardiac, medical and neuro ICU settings.
Because of the demand for mentoring and LNC internships across the country, she has created a record review and marketing strategies program customized to the career needs of LNC’s in today’s medical-legal market.
Ms. Banes has participated in the development and implementation of the only Legal Nurse Consulting certificate program in the Missouri, which began in 2003 through the St. Louis Community College system. She holds the position of adjunct faculty in this program.
